Yang Liping's The Peacock Makes Its Vietnam Debut in Hanoi Next March

Chinese choreographer Yang Liping will bring her celebrated dance production 'The Peacock' to Vietnam for the first time. The show, which has toured over 30 countries since its 2012 debut, will have its national premiere in Hanoi on March 6. Local presenter VietArt Media JSC aims to introduce world-class art to Vietnamese audiences with this event.

'The Peacock' has already captivated audiences in more than 40 Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, between 2023 and 2024. By 2025, the production had reached over 50 countries, though Vietnam marks one of its first stops in Southeast Asia.

The dance drama unfolds across four poetic acts, each representing a season, to explore themes of nature, love, and life's impermanence. Yang Liping, known for drawing inspiration from folk traditions and the natural world, will perform herself in the climactic Winter chapter. She has expressed hope that Vietnamese viewers will connect with the work's deeper messages.

VietArt Media JSC, the event's organiser, sees this as an opportunity to elevate Vietnam's performing arts scene. The company also wants to position Hanoi as a hub for international cultural events. Performances will run at the historic Hồ Gươm Theatre on March 6, 7, and 8.

The Hanoi premiere of 'The Peacock' will introduce Vietnamese audiences to a globally acclaimed production. With Yang Liping's involvement and VietArt's commitment to high-quality art, the event aims to leave a lasting impact on the local cultural landscape. Tickets are now available for the three-night run at Hồ Gươm Theatre.
