Yakutia’s Young Trade Union Leaders Sharpen Communication and Outreach Skills
The Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) held a training session for its Young Trade Union Leader School (YTUL) on January 24, 2026. The event focused on improving communication skills and enhancing public outreach strategies for trade union groups. Participants took part in workshops led by experienced specialists in the field.
Maya Kurneva, director of the Institute for Advanced Educational Projects at M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University, guided a session on effective communication. She introduced the DISC behavioral model to help attendees refine their interaction styles.
Stepan Okoneshnikov, press secretary of the Federation of Trade Unions of Sakha (Yakutia), led a separate workshop. His session covered the analysis and creation of campaign materials, with a focus on tailoring content for federal, regional, and local trade union audiences. During practical exercises, emerging leaders worked on developing engaging topics and designing content plans. They also studied distribution channels to ensure messages reached the right target groups. Another key activity involved management sparring exercises based on Vladimir Tarasov’s methodology, where participants practised constructive dialogue and conflict resolution techniques.
The training equipped young trade union leaders with tools to strengthen their communication and outreach efforts. They gained hands-on experience in content creation, audience targeting, and conflict management. The skills developed will support their work in trade union organisations across different levels.
