World Meditation Day today

Bangladesh is marking World Meditation Day today with events across the country. The United Nations declared the day last year to encourage meditation as a daily practice for well-being. From Dhaka to Sylhet, thousands will take part in sessions aimed at promoting peace and balance through inner reflection.

The UN’s official website highlights the day’s purpose: fostering a peaceful, balanced world through personal transformation. It also reminds people of their right to mental and physical health. The World Health Organization supports this, calling meditation a key 'self-care method' for managing stress.

In Bangladesh, the Quantum Foundation has led meditation efforts for over 30 years. Founded by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel laureate behind Grameen Bank, the organisation has grown a large following. Its members and supporters regularly practice meditation while also engaging in social and humanitarian work. A special session will take place this morning at Dhaka’s National Press Club from 7:00am to 8:00am. Simultaneous gatherings are planned in Chattogram, Rajshahi, Barishal, Khulna, and Sylhet. These events aim to raise awareness of meditation’s benefits and its role in daily life.

Today’s activities reflect a growing recognition of meditation’s value in modern life. The UN’s declaration and WHO’s endorsement underscore its importance for mental health. With events across major cities, Bangladesh continues to promote meditation as a tool for personal and collective well-being.
