Wolters Kluwer's Updated DocuCare Simulates Real-World EHR Training for Nurses
Wolters Kluwer Health has launched an updated version of Lippincott DocuCare, a simulated electronic health record (EHR) designed for nursing education. The tool integrates with the wider Lippincott learning suite and aims to help students develop critical documentation skills before entering clinical practice.
The latest release focuses on preparing nurses for real-world challenges by mirroring common clinical systems used in hospitals and healthcare settings.
The updated DocuCare now includes 400 customisable patient records, allowing educators to tailor scenarios for different courses, clinical training, and simulations. According to Julie Stegman, Vice President of Wolters Kluwer Health Learning & Practice, the platform strengthens clinical judgment by providing a more realistic experience for students. She highlighted its role in bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional practice.
The system also aligns with standards from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). This alignment supports accreditation requirements and competency-based education models. Kandi Hudson, an educator at the Community College of Baltimore, noted that DocuCare enables faculty to give students direct feedback on their documentation, improving both accuracy and decision-making skills.
Beyond simulation, DocuCare connects to the broader Lippincott portfolio, offering features like a unified gradebook, streamlined course management, and curriculum alignment. The tool is positioned as a way to reduce documentation errors, which can impact patient safety and career accountability for nurses.
The updated Lippincott DocuCare is now available as part of the Lippincott learning suite. It provides nursing students with a simulated EHR environment to practice documentation in a risk-free setting. No official endorsements from major health authorities on its use in nursing education have been issued as of March 2026.
