Wietze Primary School transforms road safety into a hands-on adventure for kids

Wietze Primary School hosted a special project day on 6 March 2023, centered around mobility and road safety. The main event brought together pupils, teachers, and local experts to learn hands-on about staying safe on roads, buses, and bikes.

The event was orchestrated by deputy headteacher Ms. Bilau-Wurz and her team, with support from local police and emergency services. Different stations covered key safety topics in practical ways.

ADAC ran its **ADACUS programme**, teaching young pupils how to cross pedestrian crossings safely. Meanwhile, **CeBus GmbH & Co. KG** led a 'bus school' session, showing children the right way to behave on buses. **ZF Testtrack Germany GmbH** and police officers demonstrated the dangers of the 'blind spot' around large vehicles. The **Celle Traffic Safety Council** highlighted the importance of visibility in the dark, using a darkened room to show how reflective clothing makes a difference. A teacher set up a scooter course in the school gym, while **Wietze's regulatory office** arranged a bicycle obstacle course for students to test their cycling skills. **ASB Südheide** introduced first aid basics and even brought an ambulance, using a stuffed animal as the 'patient' for demonstrations. By the end of the day, participants deemed the main event a success, with pupils gaining practical experience in road safety.

The mobility project at Wietze Primary School provided children with direct training in traffic safety, first aid, and safe travel. Local organisations and emergency services collaborated to make the event both educational and engaging for all involved.
