West Virginia University receives NSF grant to advance cloud careers

West Virginia University (WVU) has secured a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to expand its cloud computing programme. The funding will support a new three-year initiative focused on training students in Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies.

The grant will cover the cost of new technology and the hiring of two additional faculty members specialising in cloud computing. While the names of the new professors have not yet been announced, their expertise will strengthen the programme’s teaching capabilities.

WVU will introduce a two-year degree in Cloud Computing, developed in partnership with AWS. The curriculum will include cloud architecture, networking, security, and automation tools. Students will also receive career guidance from a dedicated success coach, funded by the same grant. The programme aims to prepare graduates for roles such as cloud support technician, cloud systems specialist, and junior solutions architect. By combining academic training with industry-relevant skills, WVU intends to improve job prospects for its students in the growing field of cloud technology.

The NSF grant will enable WVU to enhance its cloud computing offerings with updated resources and expert staff. Students completing the programme will gain qualifications aligned with industry demands, increasing their readiness for technical careers in cloud services.
