Wayne Lineker’s pneumonia battle worsens as he returns to hospital

Wayne Lineker, 63, has been rushed back to hospital after suffering a second severe bout of pneumonia. The former businessman, who was discharged only last week, required emergency care when his condition worsened at home. Doctors are now investigating why his treatment has not been fully effective.

Lineker had initially been hospitalised for pneumonia earlier this month. He underwent surgery to manage his pain and was later sent home with antibiotics and additional medication. However, his immune system—already weakened since he became sober this year—has struggled to fight the infection.

Lineker’s recovery remains uncertain as doctors continue to monitor his response to treatment. His weakened immune system, linked to his recent sobriety, has complicated his fight against pneumonia. For now, he will spend the festive period in hospital under close medical supervision.
