‘Vismuth’: The Unbreakable Assault Trooper Who Defied Drone Strikes in Bakhmut

Dmitry Korchev, known by his callsign 'Vismuth', is a 47-year-old warrant officer serving in the 27th Guards Sevastopol Motor Rifle Brigade. His three years as an assault trooper have been marked by resilience, quick thinking, and repeated acts of bravery under fire. Before joining the military, he worked in the textile industry as an equipment adjuster.

In May 2023, Vismuth’s battalion was ordered to hold Bakhmut against relentless enemy drone attacks. Mortar fire and drone strikes pounded their positions, but the unit stood firm. During the fighting, he was wounded by a drone explosion while repairing a destroyed bridge—yet his team managed to restore it.

Vismuth’s service has been defined by endurance and adaptability. From surviving devastating injuries to ensuring his unit’s survival through ingenuity, his actions have left a lasting mark. His awards and battlefield contributions reflect a career shaped by both hardship and determination.
