Vietnam’s Students Shine with Record Wins in Global Academic Contests
Vietnamese students have achieved remarkable success in international competitions during the 2024-2025 school year. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chin recently met with and praised the prize-winning contestants, highlighting their outstanding performances across science, technology, and the arts. The country’s best-ever results in multiple events have drawn national attention to talent development as a key priority.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, Vietnam sent seven teams to regional and international Olympiads, with all 37 participating students returning with awards. The most notable achievement came at the International Chemistry Olympiad, where all four Vietnamese contestants secured gold medals—a first for the country. Meanwhile, at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair 2025 in the US, Vietnam earned its highest-ever recognition with two second-place prizes and one third-place award.
Vietnam also made a strong debut at the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, finishing fourth among 60 nations. These successes add to the country’s growing reputation in global academic contests, with 434 prizes won over the past decade. Beyond science and technology, 10 of the 91 students honoured this year excelled in sports, music, and the arts. Recognising the importance of nurturing talent, the Prime Minister has directed the Ministry of Education and Training to work with other agencies on a new project. The initiative aims to identify and support young Vietnamese talents, particularly in science, innovation, and digital transformation. The Association for the Promotion of Learning will also play a key role in developing this strategy.
The government views education and talent development as essential for Vietnam’s sustainable growth. With a focus on high-quality human resources, the new project will build on recent achievements to strengthen the country’s position in global innovation. The Prime Minister’s directives signal a long-term commitment to fostering young talent across all fields.
