Vietnam and Nepal Launch a Decade-Long Partnership to Strengthen Ties
Vietnam and Nepal have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties as they approach a key milestone in their relationship. During a meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Foreign Minister Lê Hòài Trung welcomed Nepal’s newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador, Dhan Bahadur Oli, who presented his credentials. The two sides discussed plans to deepen cooperation across trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
Ambassador Oli introduced a nine-year initiative called the Nepal-Vietnam Decade of Partnership 2024-2033. The plan aims to boost collaboration in areas such as trade, energy, science, tourism, education, and people-to-people connections. Nepal also expressed interest in learning from Vietnam’s socio-economic development and international integration strategies.
Minister Trung congratulated the ambassador on his new role and wished him success in fostering closer relations. He suggested improving links between government agencies, businesses, and associations in both countries. To streamline cooperation, Trung proposed setting up a formal consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries. The minister also asked Ambassador Oli to support the Vietnamese community living in Nepal. Both nations agreed to maintain close coordination and back each other in international forums. The discussions took place ahead of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Nepal in 2025. Nepal is currently working to stabilize its political situation, with national elections planned for early 2026.
The meeting highlighted shared goals to expand bilateral ties through trade, cultural exchange, and institutional cooperation. With the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations approaching next year, both countries are set to build on their partnership. The Nepal-Vietnam Decade of Partnership will serve as a framework for joint efforts over the next nine years.
