Vienna's Lending Shops Expand to Six Locations, Promoting Sustainability

Vienna's lending shops, including those operated by Prosper and Business, are expanding, with five new locations set to open, bringing the total to six. The project, which began as a pilot at Max-Winter-Platz in the 2nd district nearly a year ago, is supported by Deputy Mayor and Housing Councilor Kathrin Gaál (SPÖ). The initiative, run by Vienna's Neighborhood Support Services, provides a borrowing service for everyday items, promoting sustainability and accessibility. It caters to a diverse range of users, particularly benefiting low-income households who can't afford or don't use items daily. The service offers a variety of items, from a tile cutter and mulled wine warmer to a large camping tent with outdoor seating. To borrow items, users need to register once with a photo ID at their local Neighborhood Support office. Registration also allows users to reserve items online or in person, with a standard loan period of one week, extendable to two weeks. The expansion of Vienna's lending shops, supported by Kathrin Gaál, aims to make sustainable living accessible to everyone. By providing access to items that would otherwise be unaffordable or take up unnecessary space, the initiative helps conserve resources and save money.
