Vacha’s Bold 2045 Climate-Neutral Heat Plan Takes Shape by 2026
Vacha is set to publish a draft of its municipal heat plan in December 2025, with final adoption scheduled for January 2026. The plan aims to achieve climate-neutral heat supply by 2045 and has identified the old town as a potential pilot area for a heating network using thermal energy from the Werra River.
The Heat Planning Act mandates that all municipalities develop a municipal heat plan by 2028. Vacha has begun this process with a public presentation hosted by the town, introducing its municipal heat planning (KWP). The KWP was presented by Florian Kaminski and Kay Grusa of WerraEnergiedienste GmbH, with the Ingenieurbüro Energiereferenten GmbH tasked with preparing the communal heat plan.
The KWP analysis found that only a section of central Vacha is economically viable for a district heating network. Proposed measures include ongoing management of the heat plan and a feasibility study for a heating network in the Kabelstadt area. The presentation outlined plans to designate areas for district heating networks and zones for individual heating solutions. Decentralized heating solutions are recommended for the rest of Vacha and all outlying districts.
Vacha's municipal heat plan is on track for publication in late 2025, aiming to create a climate-neutral heat supply by 2045. The old town is earmarked for a pilot heating network using river thermal energy, with other areas designated for individual or decentralized heating solutions.
