UZH Hosts Free Conference: 'Media, Modernity, and the Transformation of Tradition(s)'
The University of Zurich (UZH) is hosting a free conference, 'Media, Modernity, and the Transformation of Tradition(s)', on September 8 and 9, 2025. The event is the culmination of the 'Claiming Folklore' project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
Registration for the conference is open until August 31, 2025, via email to [email protected]. Attendees can choose to participate in both days or just one. The conference explores the role of audiovisual media in shaping traditions from an international perspective.
The 'Claiming Folklore' project, led by a researcher at UZH, delves into the politics and practices of folk music on Swiss television between the 1960s and 1990s. The final conference will present the project's findings alongside international insights on media's influence on traditions.
The conference, held at UZH, is a unique opportunity to engage with scholars and practitioners exploring the intersection of media, modernity, and tradition. Participation is free, and registration is open until the end of August.
