Uttar Pradesh’s ‘Book Abhiyan’ replaces trophies with books to spark student curiosity

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched an innovative initiative, 'Book Abhiyan', to foster a reading culture in government and aided secondary schools across Prayagraj. Led by Maharishi Educational Institutions, the program aims to build students' skills and promote a thoughtful, informed generation. Under 'Book Abhiyan', each student is required to borrow at least one non-curriculum book from the library weekly. This initiative seeks to enhance students' analytical, linguistic, and creative skills. To cultivate a culture of curiosity and imagination, creative contests will be organized. The 'No Bouquet, Only Book' concept will be implemented in all school events, with books replacing trophies or mementos as awards. Reading materials will be integrated into classroom learning, including discussions and project work. Each school will publish a student-edited magazine, highlighting various activities and events. The campaign also aims to reduce students' dependency on mobile phones and social media by encouraging reading. The 'Book Abhiyan' initiative, launched by the Uttar Pradesh government in collaboration with Maharishi Educational Institutions, is set to transform the educational landscape in Prayagraj. By promoting reading and integrating it into various aspects of school life, the campaign seeks to nurture a generation of thoughtful, informed, and creative individuals.
