Two-thirds (66%) of leaders surveyed planned to recruit new talent with AI skills instead of training their existing teams, indicating a growing demand for AI expertise. However, the number of junior and lower-paid workers who had received AI training was significantly lower than the global average, suggesting a potential skills gap.

The survey also found that 73% of workers said AI made them more productive in 2024. AI gave 29% of employees more time to check the quality/accuracy of their work, and a fifth of users reported saving as many as two hours a day by using AI tools.

Despite these benefits, only 1 in 10 business leaders had made significant progress in their digital transformation, and the majority (57%) of global leaders lacked confidence in their leadership team's AI skills and knowledge. This lack of confidence could be a stumbling block in the successful integration of AI into businesses.

To maximise human potential and unleash creativity with AI integration, employers can implement several key strategies.

First, augment, don't replace human roles. Use AI to automate routine, repetitive tasks, freeing employees to focus on creative, strategic, and meaning-rich work.

Second, communicate AI’s role clearly to combat resistance. Involve employees early in AI adoption initiatives and emphasise that AI supports and amplifies their capabilities, not threaten their jobs.

Third, invest in upskilling and AI literacy. Offer tailored AI training and create internal AI champions who mentor peers. Develop workforce skills focused on using AI tools efficiently, ethical AI use, and complementary human strengths like empathy and ethical reasoning.

Fourth, encourage lifelong learning and experimentation. Foster a culture that rewards curiosity, cross-functional learning, and adaptability to new AI tools and workflows.

Fifth, leverage AI for personalised employee experiences. Use AI-powered platforms for personalised communication, benefits, learning, and collaboration tools that cater to individual employee needs and talents, helping them thrive and grow creatively.

Sixth, adopt skills-based, equitable hiring practices. Use AI tools to reduce hiring bias, focus on candidates' abilities over credentials, and build diverse teams with broad creative potential.

Seventh, apply AI governance and ethical oversight. Establish clear policies ensuring AI is used responsibly, addressing privacy, fairness, and bias concerns. Educate employees on ethical AI practices for trust and accountability.

These strategies enable a human-AI synergy where AI amplifies creativity and innovation by handling routine tasks and data-driven functions, while humans provide vision, connection, ethical leadership, and complex problem-solving.

Organisations that provide AI upskilling and guidance to employees are significantly more likely to do so when their leadership team has sufficient AI skills and knowledge (65% v 50%). Leaders urgently need regular contextual updates and training in AI skills to navigate the AI-driven future successfully.
