University of Cincinnati career fair bridges cybersecurity jobs and students

A recent career fair at the University of Cincinnati brought together more than 40 employers with students exploring cybersecurity roles. The event highlighted growing job opportunities in the field while showcasing the university's commitment to industry partnerships. Organisers emphasised the value of hands-on learning and professional connections for aspiring cybersecurity experts.

The fair was organised by the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies alongside the Cincinnati chapter of the Information Systems Security Association. Major local employers, including Kroger, Fifth Third Bank, Cintas, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital, attended to meet potential recruits.

The university's cybersecurity programmes, offered through its colleges of engineering and information technology, were a key focus. Students also learned about upskilling opportunities at the Ohio Cyber Range Institute, which provides advanced training in cyber defence. Erik Alanson, who leads UC's information technology co-op programme, praised the students' engagement. He noted that such events give them direct access to industry leaders and real-world learning experiences.

The career fair reinforced the university's role in bridging education and employment in cybersecurity. Employers present at the event offered internships and apprenticeships, though exact figures on student attendance or job placements remain undisclosed. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to prepare students for high-demand roles in the sector.
