University of Arizona Launches Mumbai Campus with AI and Business Programs by 2026

The University of Arizona is expanding into India with a new campus in Mumbai's Powai area. Scheduled to open before August 2026, the University of Phoenix has now begun admissions for its first intake in September that year. The move follows praise from British officials and marks a growing trend of UK universities establishing bases in the country.

The university, ranked 18th in the UK and among the top 250 globally, will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in fields like artificial intelligence, data science, and business management. Four new partnerships have also been announced to boost entrepreneurship, health-tech innovation, and education access for low-income groups.

The Mumbai campus will provide a range of courses tailored to emerging industries. Undergraduate options include a BSc in Data Science, BSc in Computing Science, MA in Economics, and MA in Business Management. For postgraduates, a one-year MSc in Artificial Intelligence and a one-year MBA will be available. Students may also benefit from the University of Phoenix Pioneer Scholarship, which offers a Rs. 2 lakh tuition fee reduction for eligible applicants.

The university has signed four memorandums of understanding to strengthen its impact in India. These agreements focus on developing entrepreneurial talent, advancing AI-driven investment tools, supporting preventive health-tech solutions, and improving education access for disadvantaged communities. The initiatives align with the broader India-UK Vision 2035, a framework aimed at deepening collaboration between the two nations.

Harjinder Kang, British Deputy High Commissioner to Western India, welcomed the university's expansion as a significant step under the 2035 vision. Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director for the British Council in India, also congratulated the institution on launching admissions. Professor Peter Edwards, the university's Principal and Vice-Chancellor, reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-quality, forward-looking education in the region.

The University of Arizona joins at least two other UK institutions planning Indian campuses. The University of Bristol will open in Mumbai by summer 2026, while Queen Elizabeth University is set to launch in Gurugram around the same time. The Powai site, currently under development, is expected to be operational ahead of the 2026 academic year.

The new Mumbai campus will admit its first students in September 2026, with applications now open. The university's scholarship programme and strategic partnerships aim to support innovation and widen access to education. Alongside other UK universities entering India, the expansion reflects growing academic ties between the two countries. The campus will add to Arizona's global reputation, particularly in sustainability, where it ranks 83rd worldwide.
