On Saturday, the B. Thomas Golisano College and Computing and Information Sciences atrium will host BarCamp Rochester 2010, an attendee-driven, wiki-style event focused on technology, innovation, and community topics.

BarCamp is an "unconference" that follows a unique format, with no fixed agenda before the event. Attendees propose sessions (talks, workshops, discussions) on the morning of the event by writing them on a large schedule board or wiki. Anyone can present or host a session, encouraging wide participation.

The day begins with registration and breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, followed by a brief welcome and explanation of the BarCamp format. At 10:00 AM, attendees will plan sessions and slot them into the schedule. Six 30-minute sessions will take place simultaneously in classrooms throughout the Golisano College from 10:30 AM to 10:00 PM.

The event is organised by a team of students and alumni, with Dan Schneiderman, a third-year information technology major, serving as the lead host. Presenters come from diverse backgrounds, including tech-oriented individuals, photography majors, and those discussing the history of cotton candy.

Topics at past BarCamp Rochester events have included demonstrations of lock picking, making an HDTV antenna, robotics, and relationship advice for "geeks." The name "BarCamp" originates from the term "foobar," used in early versions of computer programs and documents.

Pre-registration for BarCamp Rochester 2010 is encouraged at www.barcamproc.org. A free lunch and T-shirt will be provided for those who pre-register. The event starts at 10:00 AM and ends at 10:00 PM.
