Unity Festival Yedino to Celebrate 15 Ethnic Groups in 2026

A new cultural festival named Yedino (Unity) is set to take place in Nizhny Novgorod in February 2026. The event will showcase the traditions of 15 ethnic groups from the Volga region, including Tatars, Chuvash, Mordvins, Mari, Udmurts, and Russians. Organisers hope it will draw attention not just locally but across the country.

The festival was conceived by students from Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University (NSTU). Their proposal aims to bring together students from across the Volga Federal District to celebrate and explore diverse cultural heritage.

The idea for Yedino began with a student-led initiative at NSTU. Their concept focuses on introducing participants to the customs of different ethnic groups while encouraging long-term creative partnerships between universities. As part of the festival, the students suggested organising excursions and cultural performances to highlight the region's diversity.

Regional lawmakers quickly backed the project. During the Legislative Assembly's Parliamentary Day, the initiative received official support. The Speaker of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Legislative Assembly promised assistance to ensure the festival's success.

A set of recommendations was later adopted, including a proposal to help students secure grant funding. The festival's organisers now plan to move forward with preparations, aiming to make Yedino a significant cultural event for the region.

The festival will feature 15 ethnic groups and is designed to strengthen cultural ties within the Volga Federal District. With backing from regional authorities and universities, the event is expected to attract wide participation. If successful, it could become a model for future cultural collaborations in the area.
