UnidosUS Unites Leaders to Drive Economic Progress in Latino Communities
UnidosUS recently held its Prosperity Forward convening to tackle economic challenges in Hispanic communities. The event brought together nearly 200 leaders from different sectors to discuss solutions. An awards ceremony also recognised key figures and organisations for their contributions to Latino advancement. The convening centred on the UnidosUS Economic Prosperity Agenda, launched with four key pillars: Housing, Labour and Workforce, Entrepreneurship, and Family Security. Over 50 organisations have already endorsed the agenda, though details on specific measures taken remain unclear.
Before the event, UnidosUS hosted listening sessions with more than 600 community members across 15 states. These discussions helped shape the agenda's focus on local needs. At the awards ceremony, over 450 guests gathered to honour U.S. Senator Alex Padilla and two national organisations for their work in protecting Latino rights. The event also highlighted grassroots efforts, such as Felida Villarreal's Prosperity Task Force in Texas, which supports local residents facing economic hardship. Speakers shared real-life impacts of the agenda's initiatives. Juan Carlos Linares recounted how Association House of Chicago helped a young mother overcome financial and housing insecurity. Angelica Perez-Delgado described delivering virtual family preparedness sessions to ease fears tied to immigration enforcement.
The convening reinforced UnidosUS's commitment to economic progress in Hispanic communities. With endorsements from over 50 organisations and input from hundreds of community members, the agenda now moves toward implementation. The next steps will depend on how local and national partners turn these discussions into action.
