UNCF Atlanta Mayor’s Masked Ball raises £3.2M for HBCU scholarships

The 42nd annual UNCF Atlanta Mayor’s Masked Ball raised £3.2 million for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Held in Atlanta, the main event brought together leaders, donors, and performers to support student scholarships. Mayor Andre Dickens and UNCF CEO Dr. Michael L. Lomax co-hosted the evening, with actor Anthony Anderson serving as master of ceremonies.

The gala featured a performance by legendary R&B group En Vogue. Guests included Ambassador Andrew Young, Senator Raphael Warnock, and former Atlanta mayors Keisha Lance Bottoms and Bill Campbell.

Major sponsors backed the event, among them Norfolk Southern, Chick-fil-A, Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, Google, The Home Depot, and UPS. Their contributions helped push the fundraising total to £3.2 million.

Dr. David A. Thomas received the Billye Suber Aaron MASKED Award for his leadership in higher education. The proceeds will fund scholarships for students and operational support for UNCF’s 37 member HBCUs.

UNCF awards over 11,000 scholarships annually, totalling more than £49 million. Since 1944, the organisation has raised over £4.8 billion to expand access to education and strengthen HBCUs across the US.

The funds raised will directly benefit students through scholarships and institutional aid. UNCF continues to play a key role in supporting higher education for Black communities. The event reinforced partnerships between corporate sponsors, civic leaders, and the HBCU network.
