UEL Expands India Ties: New Partnership with NISAU Boosts Support for Indian Students

The University of East London (UEL) has expanded its international reach with a new partnership. On October 17, 2023, UEL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Network of Indian Students and Alumni in the UK (NISAU) at its Stratford campus. This collaboration builds on UEL's existing ties across India and aligns with the India-UK Vision 2035 strategic roadmap.

The partnership with NISAU provides practical support for Indian students from pre-arrival to post-graduation. It adopts a framework of best practices in student engagement, skills, and inclusion. This is not UEL's first foray into such collaborations. It has long-standing partnerships with major employers like Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, HSBC, Tech Mahindra, and Infosys. These partnerships offer students valuable opportunities for internships and placements.

The NISAU-UEL partnership aims to provide valuable lessons for UK universities on championing international learners. Indian students are among the largest international groups at UEL, with one in every 20 Indian students studying in the UK at UEL. The MoU aims to promote equity, inclusion, and opportunity for these international learners. UEL's collaboration with NISAU follows a similar partnership signed by the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) with NISAU in October 2021, focused on promoting equality, inclusion, and opportunities for international students.

Starting January 2027, international students at UEL, including those from India, will benefit from a shorter Graduate Route visa, reduced to 18 months. This change, along with the UEL-NISAU partnership, reflects UEL's commitment to supporting and attracting international students. The university continues to build on its strong ties with India, offering a supportive environment for international learners.
