UAE and Nigeria Collaborate to Arm Over 7 Million Youth with Digital Expertise and Worldwide Job Prospects
In a significant move towards digital empowerment, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have forged a strategic partnership aimed at equipping over seven million Nigerian youth with digital skills, entrepreneurship education, and global connections. This collaboration, anchored in the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) initiative, will see joint programs with the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre (Sheraa) to foster innovation, job creation, and Nigeria's integration into the global digital economy.
The scope of the training under this partnership is extensive, encompassing digital literacy, entrepreneurial skills, civic leadership, Artificial Intelligence (AI) education, business process outsourcing (BPO), remote work skills, and startup incubation.
A key component of this partnership is the National Digital Innovation Showcase, scheduled to take place from September 1–4, 2025. This event will showcase 300 top Nigerian startups, offering them global visibility and access to international markets and investors.
The NiYA initiative has already made significant strides, with over 210,000 youths enrolled. To broaden access nationwide, Greenhouse Centres are being established in all 774 local government areas of Nigeria.
The partnership is led by Nigeria’s Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who has engaged with UAE counterparts, including Minister Omar Al Olama, Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications. These strategic talks underscore the commitment of both governments to AI-driven education and other emerging sectors.
The partnership aligns with President Bola Tinubu's vision for digital empowerment and economic transformation in Nigeria. It aims to equip the youth for an estimated future demand where 35–45% of Nigerian jobs will require digital proficiency.
This comprehensive, government-backed effort represents a significant step towards preparing Nigerian youth for the digital economy, not just through training, but also through innovation showcases and international collaboration with leading UAE institutions and platforms. The UAE partnership underscores the Nigerian government's commitment to equipping its youth with the necessary skills, resources, and international connections for success in the fast-changing digital world.
