U.S. High School Sweetheart Makes Headlines
In the bustling heart of New York City, a Ukrainian-American social media sensation named Emily Fedner is making waves in the food industry. Known for her Instagram account, Food Lover's Diary, and her work as a line cook, Fedner is a beacon of authenticity and success.
Fedner's journey began at the age of 15, where she started her first restaurant job as a hostess. Her passion for food, deeply rooted in her family's heritage, grew stronger as she worked her way up to line cook at Frankies 457 Spuntino. Her parents and older sister immigrated from the Ukraine, followed by both sets of grandparents and many other family members in 1991.
Today, Fedner collaborates with Sarah Raffetto for pop-up dinners at Raffetto's pasta shop, a partnership that started in 2019. They host these events, named Petite Pasta Joint, five times a month in a two-week span.
Fedner's Instagram account has evolved from posting static pictures of food to a mix of food reviews and various content. Her charm and knowledge of the food industry have caught the attention of numerous clothing brands, including Dolce & Gabbana, Demarson, Christian Laboutin, Delicious, Wardrobe NYC, Natalia Fedner, Isabel Marrant, Teressa Foglia, Taller Marmo, 12th Tribe, and Franco Sarto.
Fedner's versatility extends beyond social media and the kitchen. She is involved in various projects, including social media reviews, podcast co-hosting, and on-camera work for VICE Munchies, Food Network, and Thrillist. A photograph for Food Lover's Diary, taken at South Soho Bar, captures Fedner posing with a Swiss Classic Paring Knife by Victorinox (in pink).
After realizing she didn't feel like she belonged in the PR world, Fedner decided that she is a 'restaurant person' and not a publicist. This decision led her to work for a PR firm in Los Angeles and later at the elite food world publicity agency BeccaPR in New York.
Fedner's lifelong dream is to have her own food show, and she has meetings and false starts in pursuit of this goal. In the meantime, she continues to satisfy her cravings for authentic Eastern European food at Brighton Beach and documents her journey for Food Lover's Diary.
The feature photograph for this article was also taken at South Soho Bar, where Fedner's styling and makeup were expertly done by Tatiana Cinquino, Sophia Toland, Tiffanie Richards, Louise O'Connor Salon, and Steph Alexis.
As Fedner continues to make her mark in the food industry, her authenticity, passion, and dedication are a testament to the fact that one doesn't need to call themselves a chef to be successful. Raffetto credits Fedner for teaching her this very lesson.
