School Funding Program - Money Can Now Flow into Construction Measures - Thuringia’s €15.8M Boost Transforms Schools for Struggling Students

A new funding initiative has been launched in Thuringia, aiming to improve learning environments for students in challenging circumstances. The €15.8 million scheme, part of the federal Startchancen program, will run from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2034, with applications due by December 31, 2030.

Eligible projects range from new construction to renovations, furnishings, and design improvements. Grants will be awarded for individual projects requiring at least €25,000. The focus is primarily on primary schools, with around 23,000 students expected to benefit. Specifically, 93 schools serving disadvantaged students in Thuringia can now apply for funding to support specific construction measures. Institutions eligible to use the funding framework include public and private organizations involved in social innovation, volunteer work, and potentially professional development or entrepreneurship programs.

The initiative aims to promote educational equity and supports schools in challenging circumstances. With a total of €15.8 million in federal and state funds available, it presents a significant opportunity for institutions to enhance learning environments for students in need.
