School Funding Program - Money Can Now Flow into Construction Measures - Thuringia invests €15.8M to transform 93 struggling schools by 2034

The federal government and Thuringia state have launched a €15.8 million funding initiative to improve learning environments in 93 schools across Thuringia. The 'Startchancen' program, part of the federal Startchancen initiative, aims to promote educational equity and support schools in challenging circumstances. Applications are open until December 31, 2030, with the funding period running from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2034.

Eligible projects range from new construction to renovations, furnishings, and design improvements for learning spaces. Grants are awarded for individual projects requiring a minimum of €25,000, with exceptions for justified cases. The focus in Thuringia is primarily on primary schools, with around 23,000 students expected to benefit. Participating institutions were chosen based on scientific criteria. Schools in Thuringia, including those in Arnstadt, Gera's district Zwötzen, and various community, regular, comprehensive, and vocational schools, are eligible for investment in construction and modernization measures. Additionally, eleven primary schools in Gera, the Thuringian community school, and the city’s special education center receive free fruits, vegetables, and milk through specific EU school programs.

The 'Startchancen' program in Thuringia aims to create better learning environments, fostering educational equity and supporting schools serving disadvantaged children. With a total of €15.8 million available, the initiative seeks to improve learning spaces and provide additional support to students through EU school programs.
