Three Falls State Park reopens with new trails, cabins and waterfront upgrades
Three Falls State Park in New York's Finger Lakes region is set to reopen after a major restoration. The 90-acre site, located near Cayuga Lake, now features improved trails, water access, and overnight cabins. Local officials and park authorities have worked together to modernise the popular outdoor destination. The park sits on the southwestern shore of Cayuga Lake, close to Taughannock Falls State Park. Its main attraction is Frontenac Falls, a 128-foot waterfall surrounded by scenic hiking routes. New marked trails will guide visitors to all three of the park's cascades.
A protected population of peregrine falcons nests in the gorge, adding to the area's natural appeal. To highlight local wildlife, a new nature centre is planned to teach visitors about the region's biodiversity.
For water activities, newly built docks and kayak launches will provide direct access to Cayuga Lake. The park will also offer restored camp cabins for overnight stays and event spaces for live music. Trumansburg Mayor Rordan Hart has expressed enthusiasm for the park's reopening, calling it a boost for the community.
The upgrades come from a partnership between the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and local organisations. The restored park will welcome visitors with improved facilities, from hiking trails to waterfront access. Overnight cabins and educational programmes aim to make it a year-round destination. The project reflects ongoing efforts to preserve and enhance public outdoor spaces in the Finger Lakes region.
