Thousands of students commemorate graduation at the Summer Graduation Ceremony
Durham University's Summer Congregation 2024 Celebrates Graduates and Honorary Degree Recipients
Durham University's Summer Congregation in 2024 was a week-long celebration, transforming the city into a hub of joy and academic achievement. Over 6,000 students graduated from June 26 to July 3, 2024, with friends and relatives joining from around the world to celebrate their success.
The ceremonies covered all four faculties - Arts and Humanities, Science, Business, and Social Sciences and Health. A total of 24 ceremonies took place, with 32 departments and 17 colleges participating. The graduating students celebrated their success in 37 different subjects.
Six individuals were honored with honorary degrees for their significant contributions to their professional fields. These included Hunter Davies OBE, who received a Doctor of Letters degree, Dr Margaret Bradshaw MBE who was awarded a Doctor of Science degree, Richard Ovenden OBE, James Timpson OBE, Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, and Dr Dalee Sambo Dorough who received a Doctor of Civil Law degree.
Natasha Boulding, co-founder of Low Carbon Materials, was also among the honorees. Natasha is a previous finalist in His Royal Highness Prince William's Earthshot Prize. Douglas Halliday, a former Professor of Physics, was also honored.
The ceremonies took place in Durham Cathedral, with the University's Alumni webpages providing information on the global alumni community and ways to get involved. Interested individuals can explore undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by Durham University.
