Telecom Egypt names Tamer El Mahdi as new CEO to steer growth
Telecom Egypt has appointed Tamer El Mahdi as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), replacing Mohamed Nasr who stepped down from his executive role and seat on the Board of Directors. The company now looks to El Mahdi to guide its next phase of development.
El Mahdi brings over 30 years of experience in telecommunications, IT, digital transformation, and financial services. His academic background includes an MBA in International Business Administration, a Master’s in Project Management, and two degrees in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Before joining Telecom Egypt, he founded and led Trade Globe and Terrawaves Networks since 2020.
He has also held senior positions in multinational firms across various markets. His appointment follows the departure of two key executives: Mohamed Al Fowey, the Chief Technical Officer, and Ahmed Hassan, the Chief Human Resources Officer. El Mahdi will now oversee the selection of their replacements.
Lobna Helal, Chairperson of the Board, expressed confidence in his ability to drive growth. El Mahdi responded by thanking the board for their trust and pledging to reinforce Telecom Egypt’s standing both locally and regionally.
The leadership changes mark a shift for Telecom Egypt as it moves under El Mahdi’s direction. His extensive industry experience and academic qualifications position him to lead the company through its upcoming challenges. The board has not yet announced who will succeed Al Fowey in the technical role.
