Sydney to Host 40th Australian International Education Conference in 2026

Sydney has been chosen as the host city for the 40th anniversary of the Australian International Education Conference (AIEC) in 2026. The event is expected to attract nearly 2,000 delegates and generate over $6.1 million in direct economic impact for the NSW investment economy.

Catania Aviles, Events Manager for AIEC at IDP Education, praised Sydney's suitability as the host city for this milestone celebration. Toshi Kawaguchi, Director of Study NSW, anticipates the event will highlight the strength of the international education sector and showcase Sydney's vibrancy. The conference aligns with NSW's strategic plans, including the Trade and Investment Strategy, Visitor Economy Strategy, and 24-Hour Economy Strategy, reflecting international education's integral role in shaping the state's cultural and economic future. Tennealle O'Shannessy, CEO of IDP Education, expects the 2026 event to look back on 40 years of progress and look ahead to the future of global education. Amanda Lampe, CEO of Business Events Sydney, estimates the event will foster vital discussions on the future of international education and offer delegates immersive experiences at leading institutes and research facilities.

The AIEC 2026 conference will be delivered in partnership between IDP Education, the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA), Investment NSW, and Business Events Sydney (BESydney), with support from Study NSW. Rebecca McPhee, Deputy Secretary of Investment NSW, sees the event as aligning with the state's strategic vision for trade, innovation, and investment. As the event approaches, updates on participating organizations and the program will be available on the official AIEC website.
