Swiss Conviction Data 2024: Nationality and Offenses Revealed

The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) has released detailed data on the nationality of convicted individuals and their offenses in Switzerland for 2024. The report reveals insights into the demographics and types of crimes committed.

In 2024, over 12,000 individuals were convicted in Switzerland, with over 5,000 convicted for property offenses. However, the identity of the individual with the most convictions for property crimes remains unknown.

The FSO categorizes offenses, with around 3,000 convictions falling under the 'Freedom' category. Most of these were for trespassing and threats. Meanwhile, Swiss nationals had the highest number of convictions, with nearly 95 percent belonging to the permanent resident population.

Notably, one in three convicted individuals in Switzerland has no fixed residence. Algeria had a significantly higher number of convicted individuals, with an almost 96 percent share of the non-permanent population. Overall, around 36 percent of convicted individuals do not have a fixed residence in Switzerland.

The FSO also reports low absolute numbers of convicted individuals from Mauritania and Kuwait, who did not belong to the permanent population. South Sudan and Indonesia had low numbers of convicted individuals who were permanent residents.

The FSO's data provides a comprehensive overview of convictions in Switzerland in 2024, highlighting trends in nationality, residence status, and offense categories. Despite the high number of convictions, the identity of the most convicted individual for property crimes remains anonymous.
