Sverdlovsk Oblast transforms roads and forests with record-breaking progress in 2025
Sverdlovsk Oblast has made significant progress in both road repairs and environmental conservation this year. A record 258 kilometres of regional roads were restored under the Infrastructure for Life national project. Meanwhile, the region also exceeded its forest conservation goals, planting and regenerating over 33,000 hectares of woodland.
The road repair initiative saw 258 kilometres of regional routes upgraded in 2025. This effort falls under the Infrastructure for Life national project, which aims to improve transport networks across Russia.
Environmental conservation received equal attention. The region deployed 13 new drones to monitor woodlands, helping prevent fires and illegal logging. These drones operate as part of broader fire prevention and reforestation programmes, including the Forest Conservation project under the Ecological Well-Being national project. Reforestation efforts focused on pine and spruce seedlings, all grown in local nurseries. Teams carried out artificial planting on 10,700 hectares, while another 22,100 hectares were managed to encourage natural regrowth. The combined total of 33,200 hectares surpassed the original 2025 target by 1,000 hectares. The success of these efforts came from collaboration between forest leaseholders, the Ural Aviation Base, municipal authorities, volunteers, and businesses. Their coordinated work ensured both artificial and natural reforestation met or exceeded expectations.
Sverdlovsk Oblast has now strengthened its transport infrastructure and expanded its forest cover beyond planned levels. The use of drones and locally grown seedlings played a key role in achieving these results. Officials have credited the combined efforts of public and private partners for the project’s success.
