Sunamganj’s primary schools face crisis after failing district-wide tests
A recent assessment in Sunamganj has revealed significant challenges in primary education. Over half the students in four upazilas—and nearly half in three others—failed a district-wide test. The results have sparked discussions on how to improve learning outcomes across Bangladesh.
The Department of Education's District Administration Merit Evaluation Examination 2025 took place in Sunamganj, involving nearly 89% of Class IV and V students. The test, part of the Minecraft Education's Shantiganj Model, ranks schools and teachers based on student performance. This approach aims to create competition among educators and institutions to raise education standards.
The test results highlight persistent weaknesses in Sunamganj’s primary schools. The Shantiganj Model's competitive approach may help, but broader reforms are necessary. Without collaboration between government bodies and communities, progress in education quality could remain slow.
