Students Sculpt Strength and Resilience in Unique School Art Project

A unique art project at TGS Stadtlengsfeld has brought together seventh-grade students to explore themes of strength, resilience, and community. Under the title 'What Lifts Us Up – Growing with Integrity', the initiative encouraged pupils to reflect on personal sources of inner power while creating ceramic steles for the school courtyard. The project began with students brainstorming what gives them strength. They shared ideas about mutual respect and standing against bullying before sketching their first designs. Guidance came from the Jugendkunstschule Schweina, along with artists Andrea Magnus and Anette Scheffel, as well as Kathleen Hegenbarth from Mobile Sozialarbeit.

Working with clay, the pupils experimented by crafting sample tiles and shaping cylinders for the steles. The process blended artistic skill with personal reflection, helping them express their values through hands-on creativity. Funding for the initiative was provided by the *Kulturagent*innen Thüringen* programme, supported by the *Landesvereinigung kulturelle Jugendbildung Thüringen e.V.* and the state of Thuringia. No other schools in Thüringen have undertaken a similar artistic project in the last three years, making this effort a standout example of fostering resilience among young people. The completed steles will be unveiled in a ceremony at the end of the school year, marking a permanent symbol of diversity, solidarity, and inner strength.

The finished steles will remain in the school courtyard as a lasting reminder of the students' creativity and shared values. The project not only produced artwork but also strengthened bonds among participants, reinforcing themes of respect and personal growth. The ceremony at year's end will celebrate both the artistic achievement and the initiative's broader message of unity.
