STT GDC India Invests ₹5,000 Crore to Expand AI-Ready Data Centres in Maharashtra

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (India) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Maharashtra to expand its data centre operations. The company will invest up to INR 5,000 crore (S$735 million) in new campuses in Mumbai and Pune. The move aims to boost digital infrastructure while creating thousands of jobs in the region.

The agreement was welcomed by Devender Fernandes, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, who called it a key step in advancing the state’s digital goals. Bruno Lopez, President and Group CEO of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to speeding up digital growth in Maharashtra.

The investment includes a new 27-acre campus in Palava, designed specifically for AI and high-density computing. Advanced liquid cooling technologies will be a core feature of these facilities. Bimal Khandelwal, CEO of STT GDC India, highlighted plans to build sustainable, AI-ready data centres that align with environmental goals.

Beyond infrastructure, the expansion is set to generate over 500 skilled jobs and around 2,000 indirect employment opportunities. This project will also strengthen STT GDC India’s presence across the country, extending its footprint to 10 major cities. The company remains committed to carbon-neutral operations by 2030, following ESG principles in its growth strategy.

The expansion reinforces STT GDC India’s role in India’s digital transformation. With a focus on sustainability and AI capabilities, the new campuses will support high-performance computing needs. The investment also aligns with Maharashtra’s push for technological advancement and job creation.
