South Korean universities build global alumni networks for international graduates

South Korean universities are expanding their global alumni networks to strengthen ties with former international students. Recent months have seen new associations launched in Vietnam and China, alongside plans for further growth. These efforts reflect the rising number of foreign graduates seeking ongoing connections with their alma maters.

On 6 February 2026, Sejong University officially launched its Vietnam Alumni Association in Ho Chi Minh City. The event marked the university's commitment to supporting Vietnamese graduates through continued education, research collaboration, and career development. As of 2025, Sejong hosted 2,844 international students, with 691 coming from Vietnam—the second-largest group after Chinese students.

Hanyang University has already established four overseas alumni branches in Shanghai, Beijing, Malaysia, and China's Shandong province. The institution currently enrols 3,988 international students, including 1,825 from China—the largest cohort. No further expansions have been announced based on available data.

Meanwhile, Yonsei University held its first in-person gathering for Chinese alumni in Shanghai in December 2025. The event aimed to reconnect graduates and foster professional networks, with plans to organise similar meet-ups in the future.

Myongji University is also preparing to launch a Chinese alumni association, with regional chapters planned across China. Additional networks are in development for Japan and Vietnam, though specific timelines remain undisclosed.

The new alumni associations provide structured support for international graduates in key regions. By facilitating networking, education, and career opportunities, these initiatives help maintain long-term relationships between universities and their former students. Further expansions are expected as South Korean institutions continue to prioritise global engagement.
