Solanco High School Proposes Drone Course for Students
Solanco High School students may soon have the opportunity to learn about drones as part of their curriculum. The school board is considering a proposal to offer a short course on drones, which was presented during a meeting on October 20. The proposed course would prepare students to take a drone licensing test, which is required for professional drone use. The class would be limited to juniors and seniors, as the minimum age for the licensing test is 16. Students would learn about using drones and their applications in various careers, including entrepreneurial opportunities. The fee for each student to take the drone licensing test is $175, but it's not yet decided if the district will cover this cost. The proposed budget for the course next year is $6,000. If approved, the course will be listed in the next planning guide and on the January course selection guide for the high school. The school board will meet again on Nov. 3 to discuss and potentially approve the proposal. If the course is approved, it will provide Solanco High School students with valuable skills and knowledge in the growing field of drone technology.
