SMU Wins 2025 Jessup Moot Court Competition for First Time

The 2025 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition has concluded, with Singapore Management University (SMU) emerging victorious for the first time in the university's history. This marks the fifth occasion SMU has reached the final round.

The competition, held annually, saw over 230 practitioners, professors, and judges from 53 countries adjudicate the preliminary rounds. The National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (Ukraine) made history by reaching the final round for the first time in Jessup history.

The semifinal rounds were judged by Dipen Sabharwal, a London partner at White & Case and a former Jessup World Champion. The final round was judged by three members of the International Court of Justice: Judge Joan Donoghue, Judge Juan Manuel Gomez Robledo, and Judge Georg Nolte. Notably, Judge Nolte was also the recipient of the White & Case Distinguished Jessup Alumni Award in 2025.

Erica Wee from SMU was awarded the Stephen Schwebel Award for being the best oralist in the final round. SMU's team consisted of Lovein Sui, Elizabeth Ho, Genieve Wu, Raelee Toh, and Erica Wee, with coaches Professor Nicholas Liu and Fu Qiyuan.

White & Case LLP, a global partner of the Jessup since 2007 and sponsor of the White & Case International Rounds since 2010, announced SMU as the winner of the 2025 competition. This triumph signifies SMU's growing prowess in international law mooting.
