SIM equips workforce for in demand future sectors
Singapore’s job market is changing fast, driven by digital growth, sustainability, and an ageing population. New figures show resident employment rising in key areas like healthcare, social services, and information technology. At the same time, job openings remain high, with nearly 77,000 vacancies recorded in June 2025.
The Ministry of Manpower’s latest report highlights strong hiring in Health & Social Services and ICT. These sectors are expanding as demand for tech skills and elderly care grows. With 76,900 job vacancies in June, Singapore now has 1.35 openings for every unemployed person.
Educational institutions are adapting to these shifts. SIM Global Education (SIM GE) offers degree programmes in high-demand fields, including Data Science, Computer Science (with specialisations in Big Data and AI), and Economics with Finance. These courses blend academic study with hands-on training, such as industry certifications, internships, and real-world projects. The goal is to prepare students for a competitive job market shaped by digitalisation and sustainability. Beyond degrees, SIM Academy provides upskilling courses for working professionals. One example is a Corporate Sustainability programme aligned with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030. The government’s broader strategies—like Smart Nation and the Green Plan—are pushing growth in sectors such as fintech, healthcare, and green technology. The data suggests a clear trend: jobs in tech, finance, and sustainability are on the rise. Employers are looking for workers with up-to-date skills, while education providers are tailoring courses to meet these needs.
As Singapore’s economy evolves, opportunities in digital, healthcare, and sustainable industries continue to grow. With job vacancies outnumbering unemployed workers, the focus is now on training a workforce ready for these high-demand sectors. Institutions like SIM are playing a key role by offering targeted programmes that bridge the gap between education and industry needs.
