Schools offering comfort in Astana will increase to 24, as announced by Genis Kasymbek
Astana, the bustling capital of Kazakhstan, is witnessing a significant transformation in its educational landscape. The focus of this development is on the construction of social facilities, particularly schools.
In a recent announcement made by Jenis Kasymbek, the Akim of Astana, via his Instagram account, it was revealed that another 15 schools will be opening in Astana this academic year, adding to the 16 comfortable schools already in operation. This brings the total number of comfortable schools in Astana to 24, solving the problem of overcrowding in four schools with three-shift education and seven overcrowded schools.
This development is in line with the instructions of the Head of State and is part of the nationwide "Comfortable School" national project, aiming to create modern, bright, and inclusive educational environments. Across Kazakhstan, 232 schools with 267,000 places are currently under construction, with 83 new schools (115,000 places) scheduled for completion by the start of the 2025–2026 academic year and another 111 schools by the end of 2025.
The new schools in Astana are being built in all districts of the city, ensuring equitable access to quality education for all students. The construction progress of these schools has been inspected by Akim of Astana, along with the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Roman Sklyar, and the Minister of Education and Science, Gani Bekeshev.
In addition to the new schools, the construction of kindergartens, school palaces, and other social facilities continues in Astana. The new schools will provide places for 28,000 students in two shifts, addressing the growing demand for quality education in the city.
Private philanthropy also plays a role in these educational developments. For instance, the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation contributes by building state-of-the-art schools in various regions, equipped with advanced facilities meeting global standards of inclusivity and environmental sustainability.
The government's commitment to improve infrastructure is evident not only in Astana but also in other cities like Shymkent, where 12 schools for 17,300 pupils are being built. Renovation programs for existing schools are substantial, with plans to repair and modernize hundreds of schools nationwide, including modernizing 1,000 rural schools in 2025, covering over 69,000 students.
New management and quality standards, including the introduction of the "Schools of the Future" model, are being launched to ensure these schools operate effectively and use modern educational technology and practices.
By the new academic year 2025–2026, students in Astana are expected to return to comfortable, bright, and renovated schools, supported by both public programs and private foundations. This educational revolution in Astana is a testament to the government's commitment to providing quality education for all its citizens.
