School Board Agrees on Collaboration with Sheridan Library on Project

In a recent meeting, the board of SCSD#3 approved several significant decisions that will shape the future of AC School. One of the key decisions was the adoption of the Sheridan County Public Library Partnership, a move that has been enthusiastically supported by school staff and students alike.

Jessi Holland, a prominent figure at AC School, expressed her support for the library partnership. She highlighted its potential benefits for students, including the opportunity for students to reserve books through their library cards and have them delivered to the school. The library also aims to install an information kiosk at the school, potentially with a computer connected to the WYLD network.

The House System, a student leadership program at AC School, is another initiative that fosters unity, character, and healthy competition among students. This system organises students across grade levels and backgrounds into six distinct houses, collectively known as "One Claw," the entire school community. The House System is described as 'student-led and staff-supported' and will now include grade school students.

The House System provides a sense of belonging, leadership opportunities, teamwork, and service. It pairs younger elementary students with mentors from upper-grade houses, strengthening community connections and student support. In 2025, the school added two new elementary houses, each affiliated with three upper-grade houses whose members serve as mentors.

Benefits for students in SCSD#3 include building unity and school pride, encouraging leadership development, promoting teamwork and healthy competition, and creating a supportive, inclusive environment rooted in tradition and community values. The House System also organises school events, such as the annual House Party, which fosters social bonding and community celebration.

In addition to the library partnership and the expansion of the House System, the board approved the student handbook for the 2025-2026 school year. Leadership training for students will be provided during the school year. The board also approved two new policies: personal electronic devices and concealed carry of firearms.

The audit for SCSD#3 was completed in less than the scheduled three days, with books and records praised for being in exceptional shape. The audit was presented by James Seckman, from Seckman & Thomas, at the August 13 Board Meeting, stating the district was in compliance. Greg Rohrer, business manager, and Brenda Michelena, accounts manager, were commended for their preparation for the audit.

A community lunch will be hosted at the school this year, with a new twist added to the event. The students have been meeting over the summer to discuss their goals for the upcoming year.

Zachary Smiley, Branch Coordinator from Sheridan County Fulmer Library, attended the meeting to discuss the partnership. Aubrey Holland and her daughter, Jessi Holland, approached the board to initiate the discussion about the proposed partnership. A presentation about the House System was also given at the meeting.

In other business, the board approved two new policies: personal electronic devices and concealed carry of firearms. The meeting concluded with a positive outlook for the upcoming school year, filled with new opportunities and partnerships.

  1. The library partnership, which includes book reservations through library cards and a potential information kiosk connected to the WYLD network, is an exciting education-and-self-development opportunity for the students of AC School.
  2. The House System, a student leadership program in AC School, encourages education-and-self-development by fostering unity, character, and healthy competition among students, providing them with a sense of belonging and leadership opportunities.
