Educational teaching aids are being trained - Saxony-Anhalt launches pilot program for new school assistants
A new pilot program for educational assistants has launched in Saxony-Anhalt. The first group of trainees has started their training at the State Institute for School Quality and Teacher Training in Halle. These assistants will soon support students in schools across the region.
Fifty-one participants completed a two-week basic training course to begin their qualification. They will now work in secondary, comprehensive, and integrated schools. Their roles include helping students at risk of failing to graduate, organising extracurricular learning, and assisting with school events.
The assistants will also collaborate with parents and external partners. Their tasks aim to provide more individualised support for pupils and ease the workload of teachers. Education Minister Jan Riedel (CDU) highlighted their potential impact, stating they would improve educational opportunities for all students in Saxony-Anhalt. The initial positions are set for one year as part of a trial phase. If successful, the program could lead to permanent employment for the assistants.
The pilot program marks the first step in introducing educational assistants to Saxony-Anhalt’s schools. Their work will focus on direct student support and school organisation. The results of this trial will determine whether the initiative becomes a long-term feature in the region’s education system.
