Sarah Wisdom named William Woods University's first female president

Sarah Wisdom will take over as president of William Woods University in Missouri this summer. The appointment marks her first leadership role in higher education after a long career in K12 administration. She brings over two decades of experience as superintendent of the New Bloomfield School District to the position. Wisdom's connection to the university runs deep. A four-time alumna, she also has lifelong family ties to its equestrian program. Her background in both school and higher education gives her a strong grasp of the region's student pipeline.

During her time as a superintendent, she earned praise for improving budgets and upgrading facilities. Now, as president, she plans to tackle faculty and student retention early in her tenure. Her goals extend beyond the campus, aiming to influence educational outcomes on a national and global scale. Wisdom also believes in closer teamwork between universities and K12 schools. She argues that better coordination could help prepare students more effectively for higher education.

Wisdom's leadership will begin at a time when many small, private universities face challenges in keeping staff and stabilising enrolment. Her experience in budget management and student development will shape her approach to these issues. The university will look to her to strengthen its academic community in the coming years.
