Rwanda’s Magashi Peninsula Redefines Luxury with Conservation at Its Core
Wilderness has unveiled Magashi Peninsula, a new luxury camp inside Rwanda’s Akagera National Park. The exclusive lodge combines high-end design with environmental conservation, offering guests a unique safari experience. Local culture and sustainability sit at the heart of its development.
The camp’s design was led by ABL (Architects for the Built Landscape), known for blending natural surroundings with modern comforts. Each accommodation stands up to 200 metres apart, ensuring privacy without connecting walkways. The main villa includes two en-suite twin rooms, a central living space, and a flexible third bedroom.
Inside, custom lighting and ceiling panels reflect traditional Rwandan craftsmanship. Local artisans collaborated on these details, incorporating Imigongo art—a distinctive style of geometric painting—to honour the country’s heritage. The architecture also merges indoor and outdoor spaces, maximising views of the park’s landscapes and wildlife. Magashi Peninsula sits in a region rich with biodiversity, home to leopards, elephants, and Masai giraffes. Its operations support conservation efforts, including predator monitoring and the removal of invasive plants. The project is managed through a partnership between African Parks and the Rwanda Development Board, reinforcing its commitment to both tourism and environmental conservation.
The lodge now offers visitors a secluded retreat while funding critical conservation work. Its design, rooted in Rwandan tradition and ecological awareness, sets a new standard for responsible tourism. Guests can expect privacy, luxury, and direct access to one of Africa’s most vibrant wildlife areas.
