Russia's Reading Schools and Librarians Compete Nationwide

The Russian Society Znanie and the Ministry of Education have announced the results of two nationwide competitions: 'Russia’s Most Avid Reading School' and 'Best School Librarian in Russia'. Over 7,500 school employees from 89 regions participated, with Nizhny Novgorod Oblast submitting a significant number of applications.

Nizhny Novgorod Oblast showed strong interest, submitting 88 applications for the reading competition and 42 for the librarian contest. Among the reading schools, Nizhny Novgorod’s School No. 35, a winner in 2007, is participating again. Contestants will organize reading events and take part in an intellectual tournament called Znanie.Igra at the regional stage.

The contests were organized by the Russian Znanie Society, led by Director General Maxim Dreval, in partnership with the Ministry of Education. They are part of the Youth and Children national project, following a directive from President Vladimir Putin. Finalists will be announced in late November, with the final trials and awards ceremony taking place in Moscow in December as part of the First International Forum of School Librarians.

The competitions aim to foster a love for reading and recognize the hard work of school librarians. With strong regional participation, including from Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, the events promise to be engaging and impactful for Russian education.
