Russia’s new dual medical programme fast-tracks 1,300 graduates by 2026

A new dual qualification programme for medical students has been launched in Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast. Announced on Russian Students’ Day, the initiative will allow over 1,300 graduates to combine medical training with vocational skills by 2026. The scheme aims to fast-track their entry into the workforce while covering all training costs.

Tatyana Savinova, Deputy Governor and Health Minister of Sverdlovsk Oblast, unveiled the programme during the recent celebrations. As director of the Sverdlovsk Regional Clinic in Yekaterinburg, she will oversee its implementation for the 2026 cohorts.

The initiative offers specialisations in pediatrics, anesthesiology and critical care, surgical nursing, rehabilitation, and emergency medicine. Students completing the dual qualification will join the workforce six months ahead of schedule. Funding for the entire training period will come from the regional budget.

The programme is set to benefit more than 1,300 graduates from Sverdlovsk Regional Medical College. With their training fully covered, they will gain practical experience sooner and fill key roles in healthcare. The first cohort is expected to complete the dual qualification by 2026.
