Russia’s Far East bets big on booming creative industries for growth

Russia’s eastern regions are pushing to grow their creative industries, with some already seeing strong results. In Yakutia, a thriving cluster has brought in millions, while Buryatia is upgrading a large building for its own creative hub. Meanwhile, Transbaikalia is still working to turn its potential into reality.

The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has led the way with its Kvartal Truda creative cluster. By December 2024, the centre had generated 700 million rubles in revenue. Under the leadership of Olga Kuznetsova, it now houses 193 businesses and supports 279 jobs across various creative fields.

Yakutia’s Kvartal Truda has already shown how creative clusters can drive economic growth and employment. Buryatia’s new centre and Primorsky Krai’s strong figures highlight the sector’s potential. For Transbaikalia, the next step will be turning lessons from forums and media support into concrete action.
