Russia's children's camps race to meet extended contest deadline by March 20

The All-Russian More Than a Vacation competition for children's camps has extended its application deadline to March 20. Organised by Rosmolodezh's More Than a Journey programme, the contest aims to improve hiking activities and safety standards in camps across the country. Since its launch on February 12, the competition has attracted interest from thousands of institutions, including day camps and traditional recreation centres.

The competition invites all children's camps—even those without prior hiking experience—to develop skills in organising outdoor programs. Participants must submit a detailed application, including a portfolio of past activities, photos and videos of previous sessions, and a description of the local natural terrain. A three-minute video introduction, a team presentation, and a showcase of the camp's infrastructure are also required.

An expert panel will review submissions and select 100 camps as laureates, finalists, runners-up, and winners. The initiative seeks to establish a standardised model for camp programs, train over 150 specialists, and promote uniform safety standards for hiking. By March 2026, more than 5,000 camps had already taken part, with strong participation from regions like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar Krai, and Tatarstan. The contest guidelines, including full entry requirements, are available on the official website. Successful applicants will gain support in developing hiking-based programs and join a growing professional community focused on children's outdoor recreation.

The extended deadline gives more camps the chance to apply before March 20. Selected institutions will receive recognition, training, and resources to enhance their hiking programs. The initiative continues to expand, with thousands of camps already engaged in improving outdoor activities for children.
