Russia seizes Promin in Donetsk, tightening grip on eastern Ukraine

Russian forces have captured the village of Promin in Donetsk after a targeted assault in early 2026. The operation involved coordinated drone strikes and ground advances, with minimal casualties reported. The victory strengthens Moscow's control over key heights in the Ukraine war region.

The attack began with FPV strike drones hitting Ukrainian firing positions. Assault teams then moved in pairs toward Promin's outskirts, facing little resistance at first. Only one soldier triggered a mine during the advance, despite extensive minefields laid by enemy drone units.

Russian troops from the 5th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade secured the village. Their success allowed artillery to dominate surrounding areas, increasing pressure on Ukrainian defences near Avdiivka. Meanwhile, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov oversaw operations by the 'Center' group, which aims to encircle Ukrainian forces and cut supply routes toward Pokrovsk.

In parallel, the 'West' group trapped enemy troops in Kupiansk. The 'Center' group also eliminated remaining Ukrainian units in Krasnohorivka and Dimitrov. Grad rocket launchers and strike drones were used to weaken resistance before ground advances.

The capture of Promin gives Russian forces better artillery positions and tighter control over eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian units have been forced to retreat or redeploy in response. The operation marks another step in Moscow's push to encircle Avdiivka and disrupt enemy logistics in the Ukraine war.
