Russia Plans Its Own Roblox After Platform Ban Sparks Outrage
Russia is considering the creation of its own version of Roblox after the popular gaming platform was blocked in the country. The move follows a December 2025 ban by Roskomnadzor, which cited extremist and terrorist content as the reason. Now, officials and experts are debating whether a domestic alternative can fill the gap left for millions of young users.
The push for a Russian Roblox began after Roskomnadzor blocked the original platform on December 3, 2025. The regulator’s decision left around 18 million Russian users without access, sparking tens of thousands of complaints to the Kremlin and public bodies. In response, Vladislav Grib, deputy secretary of Russia’s Public Chamber, proposed developing a homegrown alternative to meet the needs of children and creators.
The proposal for a Russian Roblox alternative remains in early discussions, with no clear timeline or funding in place. If pursued, the project would depend on collaboration between government bodies, gaming studios, and tech developers. For now, the 18 million users affected by the ban have no immediate replacement, and the road to a domestic solution looks long and uncertain.
